Osteopathic Manual Therapy

Osteopathic Manual Therapists identify and assess the body using osteopathic palpation, a very sensitive touch that assesses the body's structures and rhythms. The treatment is performed using the hands to treat imbalances within a patient’s muscles, organs, bones, joints, ligaments, or connective tissue. The goal is to restore proper structure and function and promote healing from within. This hands-on therapy uses different techniques such as soft tissue manipulation to improve circulation and repair improper biomechanics.

Osteopathic Manual Therapy is taking anatomical knowledge and the science of how the body functions and turning it in an art form. Even two people dealing with the same symptoms will have a different way in how their body got to that point and will compensate differently. The therapist needs to assess and discern the best approach for that person on that day.

Using their extensive knowledge base, the therapist will use their palpatory skills and a variety of tools such as craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, myofascial release or joint mobilization to name a few in order to direct the body towards a better state of health.
