Osteopathy differs from other modalities in the sense that many practitioners treat one area where you are symptomatic. While osteopathy will treat that area as well, there is also a focus on integrating that area with the rest of the body and making sure there are not other areas that are preventing the symptomatic one from getting better.
Many people end up seeking osteopathic care after seeing multiple therapists and not having resolution of their symptoms.
Osteopathy is also quite gentle and tends to be better tolerated if you tend to feel sore or worse after other more aggressive treatments.

A thorough history is taken to get a big picture about how your body is functioning and where problem areas might be. Then they will do Osteopathic testing on how your body moves as a functional unit and where restrictions are within muscle, connective and visceral tissue. This will help to identify connections as to why you are experiencing your pain, or where the best area is to work on to reduce tension and stress in your body. The treatment usually involves multiple areas of the body as nothing acts alone and everything is connected, so don’t be surprised if you come in for back pain and your treatment includes working on your visceral organs and ankles. Most techniques involve light pressure and shouldn’t cause too much comfort.
What to expect after:
Many people have the feeling that the light pressure is not affecting much during the treatment, but are surprised to find when they stand and move their body, things feel different.
The body will adjust over the week following the appointment: the absence of an immediate result does not mean the treatment was ineffective. The whole body needs to integrate these changes through the nervous system, which is why you can sometimes feel a bit tired afterward.

This is a hard one, because the short answer is everything. Because we work with multiple systems even conditions that seem like they may be unaffected by treatment can be.
An Example would could be Chronic Fatigue. Seems like it has nothing to do with the body, but why do you have this condition? Did it start after a concussion? Or a very emotional and stressful time in your life? Because these things have an affect on the body and if we can work to decrease fascial tension and get more cerebral spinal fluid movement you might be able to adapt better and not work as hard to maintain balance which we are hoping will decrease the fatigue.
